I realized it at a birthday party last year. My kids were 3 & 2 at the time and I was the only mom "helicoptering" around her kids in the crowd of young kids. The other parents were off visiting with each other. Kinda took pride that moment and my kids show the results each day in being self-assure, respectful and caring little ones. All because I was/am there at the onset of problems and not when it had/has dissolved into screaming kids.

You and your daughter are so beautiful. The swim instructors let the parents be right there, so I've never had this particular issue. My boys are older, 14 and 11 y/o and recently I met my son in the staff parking lot at his junior h.s. to take him to the doctor. A teacher neither one of us had seen before yelled at him to go around the other entrance. I barked at her to mind her own business, my kid, my rules and unless she was taking over his medical care, I told her, "Enough."
It's situational, my sister is a helicopter parent and her kids are 16 and 19 y/o!!
