New Moon Mom

Imagine this.. 50 thirty-something women standing in line waiting and hoping to get tickets to see New Moon at 1:45 in the afternoon before their kids get home.  That was my afternoon.  I wish I had taken my camera!  Truly there was no one (aside from pre-schoolers) at the local theater younger than 30.  And as all of us moms stood in line, each of us relieved that we weren't the only closeted 35 yr old biting our nails, hoping the theater didn't sell out in time for us to buy our tickets, we were laughing and chatting about our hopes and expectations for the movie.

Even inside the theater, it was as if we were all old pals - moms that had gotten together every week for lunch.  We chatted and compared notes on our favorite Twilight Saga books.  We all agreed that while we didn't love Twilight (the movie), we were all optimistic that New Moon would meet our standards.  And we all giggled like school girls as we discussed who in the group was Team Edward vs. Team Jacob.

As for the movie: LUV-LUV-LUVed it!  It really held so much more closely to the book than Twilight did. The flow of the movie was a lot better - not so choppy like Twilight was. The special effects were actually good.  After seeing the previews, I was convinced the wolves would look nothing like what Meyer had described in her book.  But they did not disappoint.  The wolves were truly HUGE and their scope as large as I had imagined when reading New Moon.  Unfortunately, I was disappointed that the movie kinda brushed over the drama involving Jacob's distrust of Sam and the pack prior to his change.. BUT I understand that not everyone wants to sit through a 6 hour movie, so some things had to be condensed.  Also, in the book, Edward makes a point of making sure that every piece of evidence that he had ever been in Bella's life was removed - including the song he wrote for her.  While you see Edward in her room and removing one pic from an album, unless you had read the book, you may not have gotten that.

As for the characters, they are really pretty much as I had imagined them - especially the Volturi.  I'm still not a big Jasper fan, however (the movie version).  And I wish they had had time to develop Jacob even more.

All in all I'm a happy camper.  I loved this movie compared with Twilight.  I am anxiously anticipating Eclipse (which has wrapped filming) and Breaking Dawn (which I'm convinced will need to be 2 movies to do it justice).

Two thumbs up from this 30-something (not so) closet Twilight Fan!

I second the motion! I just got back from seeing it and I was blown away. It was light years better than Twilight. I don't even own that one because it was so bad. This one, I didn't want to leave the theater. I'm so with you on Jasper and I didn't like Aro much either, but the rest were pretty good and I liked Emmett and Rosalie better than I did in the first one. Carlyle too was a little more believable. It was just awesome. I'm going to go see it again as soon as possible.

I'm glad you had a good time. I can't really comment on the movie or the books. I haven't read one (tried to read the first) and I couldn't make it through the first movie.
