Toy Review: PlayFoam

Toy: PlayFoam by Educational Insights

Approx. Retail Price: $10.99

Finding toys both you and your child approves of is not easy. Fortunately, there is a toy website called ebeanstalk, dedicated to selecting good, safe baby toys and kids toys. BUT they need help from moms like me to help pick the toys. The toy they sent me to review is called Play Foam, one of their many learning toys. Here is the skinny on this toy…

PlayFoam is a reusable sculpting foam made of tiny sculpting beads.  It's non-toxic and appropriate for children 3 and older. (The sculpting beads do pose a choking hazard.  So please do not give this toy to a child who is under 3 or will put the toy in her/his mouth.  As always, supervised play is best.)

It is truly unlike the play dough or clay out there.  My 4 yo had a blast playing with it.  First, she just squished it between her fingers over and over again.  Once the novelty of that wore out, she started to create sculptures.  We reviewed the 6 pack foam which comes with  blue, yellow, white, green, peach & pink pastel colors.  And the first thing she wanted to sculpt?  A princess!   She had a ball.

What I liked most about it is that it doesn't stick to anything but itself.  So no PlayFoam stuck to my kitchen table, carpeting, or little hands.  That's a major plus!  Also, it doesn't dry out.  So, you don't have to worry about your kidlet leaving the lid off of the container and ruining it.  But by far the coolest thing (which I didn't expect) is that you can roll it out like dough and cut neat little shapes out.  We used my bin of plastic cookie cutters to cut out dog, cat, and letter shapes.  We played with this for nearly an hour! (In mommy-time, that's a super long time to hold a child's attention!)

I highly recommend this toy to parents of kids who like to sculpt or mold modeling clay.  This foam is a fantastic substitute that the kids will love and mom won't have to clean up!  This would make a terrific stocking stuffer this holiday season!

I was fortunate to review the PlayFoam 6-Pack courtesy of eBeanstalk.  Momma'Tudes Disclosure Policy applies.

When I did my Christmas shopping I almost bought that for my kids. But I thought it would be similar to play dough and I cannot stand how that stuff gets on EVERYTHING! Now that I know it doesn't do that, I'm going to buy some :)
